PNS International Fellowship Success in Cape Town and Zambia
In an effort to develop regional centers of excellence in the Southern Hemisphere, the Peripheral Nerve Society helped fund a pilot six-month fellowship program for Dr. Stanley Zimba, a consultant physician and neurologist at the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka.
Dr. Zimba spent three months at the University of Cape Town in South Africa under the mentorship of Professor Jeannine Heckmann, gaining insights into genetic neuromuscular disorders and adopting methodologies applicable to his home country, Zambia.
Collaborating with Dr. Michelle Kvalsund and Dr. Melody Asukile during an additional three months at the University of Zambia in Lusaka, Dr. Zimba furthered honed his skills in the EMG lab, concluding research projects, and preparing a manuscript for publication.
